Baylor Swim Meet 2005

Blackwell Storms Chattanooga

January 15, 2006……5 boys from Wilson County traveled down to Chattanooga TN and competed at the Baylor School Tyr Invitational Swim Meet this past weekend. Lebanon residents Luke Blackwell and Austin Barnes joined Mount Juliet residents Bradley Gillilan, Alek Nochowicz, and Taylor Wallace. All 5 boys are members of Excel Aquatics, a USA Swimming Silver Medal Level Club.

Blackwell, a 12 year old swimmer who joined Excel in May, achieved his first Southeastern Swimming Short Course Championship Qualifying Time at the meet, placing 5th in the 200 Yard Freestyle with a stunning 2:17.38. “That was the first time Luke has swam the 200 Free, and to achieve a SES Qualifying Time is nothing short of amazing.” Excel Assistant Coach John Barnes stated. “Luke has been training with former Romanian National Champion Andreea Mitrofan-Ianoli, and together they are making some significant changes to his stroke techniques. Luke has responded very well to the changes, and his times this weekend were a result of his paying attention to details.”

In addition to his 5th place finish in the 200 Free, Blackwell dropped times in all of his events, with the following placings in the meet: 100 Yard Individual Medley (14th Place), 100 Yard Breaststroke (11th), 50 Yard Free (10th), 100 Yard Butterfly (13th), 50 Yard Breaststroke (10th), 100 Yard Freestyle (10th), and 50 Yard Butterfly (22nd).
